Please Knock is a New York–based platform dedicated to erotic art through publications, archival material, exhibitions, and in-person events, including the NYC Erotic Art Fair. It brings together artists, archives, and collectors whose work engages with erotic imagery.

Founded in 2020, Please Knock began as an online shop and blog focused on erotic art and explicit printed material. Unlike most online adult booksellers, the platform chose to show uncensored interior pages rather than only book covers or censored previews. As the shop grew, this approach led the platform to be classified as “high risk” by payment processors and financial institutions, resulting in operational restrictions, compliance fees, and the loss of access to multiple mainstream payment and e-commerce services commonly used by independent publishers and artists. These conditions eventually made the shop impossible to sustain, and it was forced to close.

As a result, Please Knock shifted toward physical events, with the Erotic Art Fair becoming its central annual event — a one-day market and exhibition bringing together rare printed material, independent booksellers, archives, collectible objects, and artworks created specifically for the event.

Among the artists and collaborators are Larry Clark, Annie Sprinkle, Roger Ballen, Boris Mikhailov, Richard Kern, Mike Diana, Aurel Schmidt, John Yuyi, Joshua Gordon, Heather Benjamin, Ami Evelyn Hughes, Alana O’Herlihy, and others.

Additional collaborations include the UK Fetish Archive at the Bishopsgate Institute in London, Vasta Archives, RAM Books, Japanese Avant-Garde Books, and other independent archives and booksellers.
