Enjoy the work of Joseph Apoux, the late 19th century French painter and creator of this wonderful and naughty decorative caps called Alphabet Pornographique, circa 1880.






























About The Artist: Joseph Apoux, born November 5, 1846 in Blanc and died in Kremlin-Bicêtre on November 11, 1910, is a late 19th century French painter and illustrator close to decadentism. Joseph studied painting and drawing with Jean-Léon Gérôme at Paris. He then specialized in aquatint and drypoint engraving. He exhibited from 1880 and participated in the International Exhibition of White and Black in 1886. He is the author of numerous caricatures and series of engravings tinged with a rather deadly eroticism.

Joly, quai Saint-Michel, and the print merchant René Pincebourde, rue de Verneuil, were his publishers between 1880 and 1900.
